Laminate floors usually contain four layers. Starting from the bottom of the floor to the top to the bottom of the floor, the layers are: 1) a “wear layer” (this is the most durable part of the floor; this layer provides protection from getting ruined due to “wear” and is stain resistant), 2) the image layer (this is the image of the wood or stone), 3) a core layer (this is the thickest part of the floor), and 4) a moisture-resistant layer.
Because laminate floors have a thick core layer and thin “war layer,” certain types of cleaning items are can ruin the floor. A wet mop, polish or wax, any kind of tough cleaner, soap based cleaners, and standing water shouldn’t be used when cleaning laminate floors. Instead it’s best to clean laminate floors by sweeping with a soft brush or broom used only for indoors, by vacuuming dirt, using a dry mop, and a (very wrung out) damp mop are the best ways for cleaning laminate floors.
